Taxi aeroport surfacture
Touts on arrival in Dushanbe asking 3 to 4 times the normal price for the centre.
Tip :Negotiate firmly in advance or order a Yandex Go from the lobby.
Ghost 4x4 renter
Fake operators inflating the Pamir Highway tours or changing the terms en route.
Tip :Go through PECTA (Khorog) or a recognised agency; fix price, itinerary and days in writing.
Practical tips
- For the Pamir, hiring a 4x4 with a driver to share (3-4 people) works out cheaper and safer than driving alone.
- Allow plenty of extra journey time: the tracks, passes and checkpoints slow everything down.
- The GBAO permit is essential for any travel in the Pamir: get it with the e-visa before departure.
