- Rent a car (ideally 4x4) for Svaneti and Tusheti: marshrutkas are rare there and the roads rough.
- Book the Zugdidi-Mestia marshrutka early in the morning, it leaves once full.
- The overnight train Tbilisi-Zugdidi saves a day toward Svaneti.
