Myanmar is rated Level 4 'Do Not Travel' by France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the EU. Since the military coup of February 2021, the country has been plunged into civil war: active fighting, bombings, landmines, forced conscription law and arbitrary detentions. Travel insurance generally does not cover these areas. This is not a normal tourist destination in 2025-2026.

Mosquitoes
Malaria present in rural and border areas; dengue endemic in town and countryside, especially in the rainy season. Repellent, covering clothing and antimalarial treatment depending on the region.
General notes
Systeme de sante tres degrade et sous-equipe, surtout depuis 2021. Peu d'hopitaux fiables hors Yangon. Rapatriement sanitaire quasi indispensable mais souvent exclu des assurances en zone Level 4. Emporter une trousse medicale complete.
Women travelers
Street harassment is rare and society remains respectful, but the absence of the rule of law, military checkpoints and the unpredictability of the conflict make any solo travel risky. Dress covering shoulders and knees at religious sites.
LGBTQ+ travelers
Homosexuality remains theoretically criminalized under a colonial-era article, rarely enforced but never repealed. Conservative society; discretion strongly advised. No legal protection.
