Areas to avoid
- No truly dangerous area; just standard anti-pickpocket caution in Kotor Old Town and on the crowded Budva beaches in summer.
- Narrow mountain roads and bends in the north (Durmitor, the Lovćen hairpins) to be taken carefully behind the wheel.

Decent care in cities; travel insurance recommended as Montenegro is not in the EU (the European Health Insurance Card is not valid there).

A safe destination for women travellers, including solo. Standard vigilance in Budva's nightlife areas after dark.

Homosexuality legal and civil unions recognised since 2021, a regional first. Society remains conservative: discretion advised outside the major cities and tourist areas.
