Tap water not drinkable on most islands: drink bottled or filtered water (resorts often provide filtered desalinated water).

Dengue and chikungunya present; no malaria. Repellent advised at dusk, especially on the inhabited islands.

Soins de qualite a Male (hopital ADK, IGMH) ; tres limites sur les iles eloignees. Assurance voyage avec evacuation par hydravion/vers Male ou l'etranger indispensable.
Women travelers
Overall safe for women traveling alone. On the local islands, covering dress is expected (shoulders and knees covered outside the 'bikini beach'); a respectful but conservative atmosphere.
LGBTQ+ travelers
Legally hostile: same-sex relations are illegal (Muslim country under Islamic law). Discretion essential on local islands; private resorts are more tolerant in practice.
