Cyprus is one of the safest countries in Europe, with very low crime. The only real risks are party-bar scams and driving on the left. The island remains split between the Greek south and the Turkish north, but crossing is free at the checkpoints.

- The hostess bars of Ayia Napa and the Limassol area (bill scams)
- The UN buffer zone (Green Line) between the two sides: cross only at official checkpoints
- Swim carefully: strong currents on some unguarded beaches

Tap water drinkable in the south but often very hard and strong-tasting; many prefer bottled water.

Mosquitoes present in summer, no tropical diseases. Repellent useful in the evening near the water.

Good-quality healthcare in the south. The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is valid in the Republic of Cyprus. Intense summer heat: risk of heatstroke, stay hydrated.
Women travelers
Very safe for women, including solo travelers. Standard vigilance in Ayia Napa's nighttime party districts.
LGBTQ+ travelers
Homosexuality is legal and civil unions are recognized in the Republic of Cyprus. Society is fairly conservative outside the tourist areas; Limassol and Ayia Napa are the most open.
