Tap water is treated in big cities but the taste varies. Bottled water is preferred.

General notes
Private hospitals in the big cities (Sao Paulo, Rio) are excellent. The SUS (public system) is free but overloaded.
Women travelers
Heightened vigilance is recommended, especially at night and on public transport. Street harassment exists. Traveling in a group reduces the risks.
LGBTQ+ travelers
Sao Paulo hosts the largest Pride in the world. The country is legally progressive (marriage is legal) but homophobic violence exists, especially outside the big cities.
