Mosquitoes present in summer in the lowlands, but no malaria. No major tropical disease.

Good private clinics in Baku, more limited in the regions. Take out travel insurance covering evacuation. The single emergency number 112 also works.
Women travelers
Baku is generally safe for women travellers, including solo. Verbal harassment can occur; more covering clothing is appreciated outside the capital and near mosques.
LGBTQ+ travelers
Homosexuality is legal but society remains very conservative and hostile. No legal protection, frequent discrimination. Discretion is strongly advised, including in Baku.
