Cash vs Carte

Économie quasi exclusivement en espèces. Les cartes étrangères sont très rarement acceptées et souvent hors service. Arrive avec des dollars ou euros en billets neufs et propres.

A

Distributeurs (ATM)

A few ATMs in Ashgabat, unreliable for foreign cards and locked to the unfavourable official rate. All but non-existent outside the capital.

Frais typiques

High fees and withdrawals forced at the official rate, very unfavorable compared to the real rate.

C

Ou changer son argent

Exchange is officially done at the bank at the fixed rate (~3.5 TMT/USD). Beware: a black market exists at a much more favorable rate (often 5 to 6 times more manats), but it's illegal, risky and cracked down on — never touch it without your guide.

Pourboires

Not local custom.

Paiements digitaux

All but non-existent for foreigners. Apple Pay and Google Pay don't work. A local payment system (Altyn Asyr cards) exists but is reserved for residents.
