Cash vs Carte
An almost cashless society: cards (and Swish for locals) reign supreme. Many shops display 'kortbetalning' (card only) and refuse cash

Not expected, service is included. Round up or leave 5-10% at a restaurant for very good service
DAB / Distributeurs
'Bankomat' ATMs everywhere, but rarely needed. Possible fees for non-eurozone cards
Astuces
- •The 'dagens lunch' (lunchtime set menu, 110-150 SEK, ~10-14 EUR) is much cheaper than dinner
- •The ICA and Coop supermarkets and the discounter Willys keep the food budget down
- •A 'fika' (coffee + kanelbulle) runs around 50-70 SEK, but tap water is free and excellent
- •Many Stockholm museums are free (Moderna Museet, Historiska museet)
- •Allemansrätten (the right to roam) allows free wild camping for one night almost anywhere

- •Sweden is NOT in the eurozone — currency = Swedish krona (SEK)
- •1 EUR ≈ 10.8-11 SEK (2025-2026). No need to change cash: you pay for everything by card
- •Avoid withdrawing much cash, it's almost never needed
Arnaques courantes
- ⚠Few scams: Sweden is very honest. Watch out for pickpockets in Gamla Stan and on the Stockholm metro in summer
- ⚠Fake taxis at Arlanda airport — check the price displayed on the window before getting in (fares are unregulated in Sweden)
