ATMs everywhere in town (Bank Muscat, NBO). Fees possible on your foreign bank's side; rare in the desert and the Musandam, withdraw beforehand.
Astuces
- •The Omani rial is one of the strongest currencies in the world (1 OMR is worth more than 2 EUR): the small figures hide real sums, do your conversions carefully.
- •Eating at Omani or Indo-Pakistani canteens (biryani, thali) brings a meal down to 1-3 OMR instead of 6-10 OMR at a tourist restaurant.
- •Renting a 4x4 with several people and camping in the desert or the wadis sharply cuts the trip cost.
- •Fuel is very cheap (about 0.23 OMR/liter): a road trip is the best value in the country.
- •Many wadis and forts are free or cost 0.5-2 OMR admission.

- •Withdraw straight in OMR at the ATMs, the rate is better than exchanging cash.
- •Change your EUR at the exchange offices (Muscat, airport) rather than at the hotel.
- •Keep small bills for taxis and canteens, change is rarely given on a large note.

- ⚠Desert or dolphin excursions overpriced when booked through the hotel: book directly with a local operator.
