Cash is king, in US dollars. The 2019 banking crisis dollarized the economy de facto: many shops accept only cash, and cards remain marginal outside upscale hotels and restaurants.

Tip expected, around 10%; check whether the service charge (10%) is already on the bill.
DAB / Distributeurs
ATMs unreliable since the crisis: capped withdrawals, high fees, sometimes unavailable. Plan your budget in USD cash from abroad.

- •The economy is dollarized: bring US dollars in cash, that's the real everyday currency
- •Bring small denominations (1, 5, 10, 20 USD): getting change for a large bill is often a headache

- •Shared taxis (service) cost a fraction of a private ride in the city
- •Baalbek, Byblos and most sites remain very cheap (admission of a few dollars)

- •Change your euros into USD before you leave or at a reputable exchange office in Beirut
- •Don't count on ATMs for reliable cash: the banking crisis persists, withdrawals are limited and costly
- •The LBP-USD rate hovers around 89,500 LBP to 1 USD (fixed by the central bank since 2024)
