Card is king everywhere, even for 1 EUR. Many shops are card-only. Cash is becoming rare.

- •The lunch buffet (lounas), 11am-2pm, is the best value: main + salad + bread + coffee for 12-16 EUR
- •Shop at Lidl or the K-Market/S-Market: cooking for yourself cuts the meal budget by three
- •Tap water is excellent and free: never pay for bottled water
- •In Lapland, the activities (snowmobiling, husky sledding, aurora hunting) are the real expense: 100-200 EUR per excursion
- •The right to roam (jokamiehenoikeus) lets you camp and pick berries and mushrooms for free almost anywhere

- ⚠Very few scams: Finland is one of the least corrupt countries in the world
- ⚠Oversold northern-lights excursions: check that the tour refunds or reruns if the sky is overcast
