Cash vs Carte
Cash is king everywhere. Cards are accepted only in upscale hotels and large centers in Dhaka.
Pourboires
Not required. Round up or 5-10% in restaurants that serve foreigners.
DAB / Distributeurs
ATMs in the cities (Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet). Fees of 150-300 BDT per withdrawal, low limits. Rare in rural areas — bring cash.

- •Bangladesh is one of the cheapest countries in Asia: a street meal costs 0.50 to 1.50 EUR
- •Eating local (biryani, dal, fish) costs a fraction of the price of restaurants for foreigners
- •Rickshaw rides in the city cost a few cents — negotiate before getting in
- •Withdraw large sums at once to limit ATM fees, which are often high

- •Change your euros at the licensed offices in Dhaka (Gulshan, Motijheel), a better rate than the airport
- •Keep small bills: shops often run short of change
- •The taka is hard to change back outside the country, only convert what you need
