Cash is king. Outside Tirana and the big hotels, card is rarely accepted. Always keep some lek on you.

Plenty of ATMs in cities. Many charge high fees (5-8 EUR): favour Credins Bank or BKT, which are cheaper.

•One of the cheapest countries in Europe: a full meal at a local restaurant costs 5-8 EUR
•The furgons (shared minibuses) cost 1-5 EUR between towns, unbeatable
•Out of season (May, September-October) on the Riviera, prices halve

•The euro is accepted in tourist areas but at a poor rate: paying in lek works out cheaper
•Change at the exchange bureaux in central Tirana (Myslym Shyri street), fair rates and no commission
